Over 75% of our workforce has been with us over 10 years, which we are proud of, but recently, there was one guy that I was sure I could smell alcohol on. Then, it was brought to my attention by a manager that he could too, but we had no idea what to do. If both the manager and I could smell it then we were sure our customers would too.
We spoke to Rob who implemented a Drug and Alcohol policy that enabled us to test if we had a suspicion. Rob then came and tested a sample of our workforce and he was over the limit. The risk this put the rest of the workforce, our customers and the Company at was huge. We had no option other than to dismiss but we knew that a qualified person had done everything to the letter of the law.

I call Rob what feels like almost daily. I have no HR understanding at all and with Rob there I don’t need any either. I follow the advice I am given to the letter. I have a business with around 85 employees and they are mostly minimum wage roles within a cash rich industry so the staffing issues I have ranged from criminal damage to what to do if a person is pregnant.
